Frequently Asked Questions
1) Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears, WeBeLos?
These are the names of the badges that each scout in their respective grade works toward:
Lions (Kindgergarten)
Tigers (1st Grade)
Wolves (2nd Grade)
Bears (3rd Grade)
WeBeLos - "We'll Be Loyal Scouts" (4th and 5th Grade),
with 5th graders focusing on their Arrow of Light award
2) My child is in the "4th/5th Grade," and was never in scouts, can they still join?
Absolutely!!!!! Each grade works on their respective grade's badge, and you do not need to worry about previous badges. For example, WeBeLos are trained to properly and safely use knives and fire. They also begin to develop proper camping skills and prepare to become full fledged Boy Scouts.
3) My child is on travel sport(s) teams, will they have time to do this as well?
Likely. The Cub Scout motto is "Do Your Best." The rhythm of time allocations within Woodcliff Lake have settled on a pattern where a once a month Friday evening Pack Meeting and a once a month Den Meeting do not really conflict with youth sporting events. If a conflict arises and a scout meeting is missed, no worries. If a conflict arises and a scout arrives late in a baseball, soccer, or basketball uniform, no worries.
4) What is a Den? What is a Pack?
A Den ideally consists of 6 to 10 scouts who are all in the same grade (and all the same gender). Dens are led by at least two (2) Den Leaders (parent volunteers*). Den Leaders arrange once a month meetings, which typically take place at Dorchester immediately after school. Pack meetings consist of all the Dens (with Lions invited to only certain Pack Meetings) and are led on a rotating basis by each respective Den.
*Each Den should have at least two registered adult Den Leaders who have received proper Youth Protection Training. Ideally, all parents of Cub Scouts should receive Youth Protection Training.
5) Youth Protection Training?
Please go to the official Scout Website for more information. Anyone can receive this training. You do not have to be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America to take Youth Protection training.

6) Lions? Are Kindergartners too young for Scouts?
Not necessarily. Pack 349 will attempt to sponsor a Lion (Kindergarten) program this year, but it is dependent upon 6 to 10 Scouts registering for the program as well as two (2) registered adult Den Leaders. Lions will be invited to attend certain Pack Meetings, but are not required to attend all of them. Please note: Pack Meetings are family friendly so siblings can attend, regardless.
7) Can I drop off my child at Pack Meetings?
NO! At least one parent must actively attend all Pack Meetings.
